Robert Lawrence Castleberry
My name is Robert Lawrence Castleberry, and I was born July 17, 1952, at Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I graduated from McNeese State University with my associate degree in Electrical Technology, and worked for Brown & Root in Houston, Texas. My wife and I stayed there for six months and moved back to Sulphur, Louisiana.
I worked for Levingston Engineering for 15 years as an electrical designer and draftsman. In 1988, I graduated from McNeese State University with my BS in Instrument Technology and Measurement. I worked for PPG Industries as an Instrument Engineer until June 2013.
In February 2019, my wife and I moved to New Orleans. At that time, Beverly and I moved back to Sulphur, where I resumed work with Levingston Engineering at Westlake Chemicals until I took full retirement in 2020.
I am publishing a book, “Why Am I Here?” that tells my life history or most of it.

Stroke Survival
Have you ever had to deal with a loved one who’s had a stroke? Do you feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities that befall you as their caregiver? Do you wish to understand how you can help a loved one survive a stroke? Then this book is for you!
I’m writing this book to try and help stroke victims’ families or caregivers get some idea of what is going on with their loved one who has had a stroke. Usually, when things go south, we are not prepared for what is to come. In times like these, we lose the grip on ourselves. When we are hit with the word “stroke”, we have no idea of what lies ahead or what is next. We don’t even know what the word ‘stroke’ means besides the obvious interpretation that indicates a man is now partly disabled. With the word come a lot of questions: will the man ever stand up again? Will the man recover? How long will it take to recover, and whether the recovery is full or partial?
Why Am I Here?
I’m writing this memoir for my kids to know my background as a youth but that’s not it. I want others to know that you can’t judge a book by its cover. It’s the inside that counts, and everybody has a choice to make of the doors they are going to open in life and the direction they will choose. This memoir will also show you that you don’t have to listen to the world but listen to the greater being of the universe who knew your plans before you were born.
I’m writing to help you choose the eternal path and not the way of the world.
Beverly was diagnosed with a stroke shortly after they came back from a trip. She had headaches during the trip, but a doctor managed the condition until they got back home, where she was diagnosed with a stroke. This book takes on the journey of Beverly, how she managed this condition through rehab, and her life as a stroke patient.
It was lovely to see how caring Robert was for his wife. As he mentioned in this book, not many partners will stay around and even be caregivers when their partners are in conditions like this. He showcased a pure form of love, and I think that was the highlight of this book for me. This book is also educational, and it will educate readers on how living with stroke is. This book was not one-sided with its information, as the author informed readers that some of the information may differ among different people. I also loved the resilience of Beverly and how she did not allow her condition to stop her from achieving her goals.
There was nothing to dislike about this book. The characters at the beginning were properly introduced and did not cause any confusion. The inclusion of pictures also helped me understand the things talked about in this book. For instance, I had no clue what a trike looked like before this book, but with the picture, I knew what it looked like. There are a lot of things to learn from this book.
I rate Strike Survival - Against All Odds by Robert Castleberry 5 out of 5 stars because there was a lot to learn from it and it was quite interesting to read. There were a few errors in this book, but they did not distract from the overall enjoyment of this book. This book will be enjoyed by lovers of health-related memoirs. This book may also be best suited for mostly Christians, as the author gives glory to Jesus Christ for helping him and his wife throughout the journey and asks the readers to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
This book is nice and this book will be enjoyed by lovers of health-related memoirs. because there was a lot to learn from it and it was quite interesting to read

The review provides an insightful and positive perspective on "Strike Survival - Against All Odds" by Robert Castleberry. The inclusion of pictures and proper character introduction were appreciated. Despite minor errors, the overall enjoyment and learning experience were rated 5 out of 5 stars. The genuine love and care Robert displayed for Beverly are truly heartwarming, making it a must-read for me. The educational aspect, coupled with the author's acknowledgment of differing experiences, adds a layer of authenticity. Stroke survival
This book details what it was like for my sister and brother-in-law after Beverly’s stroke. Robert (Stormy) has been a wonderful and caring husband as he helped Beverly survive her stroke and manage her “new normal”. I particularly like the pictures of adaptive equipment that Beverly now uses and how together they have manage to hep Beverly live her fullest life. This book also covers the hardships experienced by the famiy of the stroke survivor. Definitely a must read for anyone navigating this reality.
I would like to add to my wife’s review of Stormy’s book. Many people have known someone who has had a stroke, and may be aware of the resulting devastation as someone looking from the outside in. Stormy’s book is written for those whose loved one has had stroke, for those who witness the devastation from the inside out. A stroke, especially a serious one like Beverly’s, as viewed from the inside out becomes an intimate, life altering new reality. Stormy’s casual writing style is almost like having a one-on-one conversation, which makes it easily relatable. This book may offer some hope to those who may be in a similar situation.
Informative Read
The writer has managed to put into words what he and his wife struggled with after she survived a massive stroke. They learned how to tackle all of her new obstacles and he chose to put that experience down on paper in the hopes of helping someone else going through the same trials.
Anyone who’s looking to reach out to their Heavenly Father and pray for His guidance should read this book! It shows that God never promised a bed of roses, but He did promise to never let you be alone. Seek and you shall find and if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can move mountains.
A truly inspiring and motivational memoir that will help you open the right doors in life!
This book is really helpful for people who are from broken homes and who may have lost a sibling, or those who believe no one loves them and that they are in this world on their own. Truly gripping and motivating!
I have known Stormy and Beverly for about 20 years. They were faithful members of my church. Both were very active in ministries of various kinds. Beverly served in our school as a teacher for children with learning difficulties. The school was located on the second floor of our education building and it was hard for Beverly to climb the stairs to teach. Her students loved her, and it was not unusual for some of the boys to help her up the stairs to get to her class and then help her down to get to her car at the end of her day. She had a desire to always do more than she was physically able to do because of her stroke. But Beverly did not feel that her stroke should prevent her from serving. She volunteered and worked hard.
Stormy was always by her side. He helped her be able to go on outings. He made sure all of her needs were met. Stormy was a man who lived out the marriage promise “for better or worse.” He experienced both with Beverly, but he never complained. Even when she wanted to do something that was not in her best interest, he supported her and helped her try to achieve her goals.
This is a couple who modeled what it meant to love your spouse unconditionally. It is an honor to be able to endorse this book.
Surviving traumatic childhood
Robert (Stormy) is a walking miracle. Due to family tragedies, he was raised by various aunts and uncles and had to attend multiple schools as a child. Stormy is a devout Christian, and truly tries to share his faith with others, Also worth mentioning is the fact that he has been an amazing caregiver to his wife after she suffered a major stroke. Truly an inspiring story.
I cannot add much to my wife's review, as I am in full agreement. Stormy introduced me to my wife almost 50 years ago, and I used to tell everybody that was the only good thing he has ever done for me. After reading his life story, I may have add a few more things to that statement. Stormy is truly an inspiration to all.
God walks with Christians through all things!
Such a touching story of one man's journey through life and how God lead and guided him through all things to make him the man he is today. Beautiful testimony.
